He achieved independence by using pive resistance also called non-violent resistance. It is when you break the laws not using violent. For example that time I think British took over India so to get rid of them Gandhi and his people decided that to boycott the British settlers. They went to the oceans to get salt instead of buying them from the British. By doing this it will make the British run out of business. Instead of buying thread to make clothes they uses their own spinning wheel to make clothes. They also go on strikes.
